Introducing a New Hysterectomy Support Group for Folks Pre or Post Surgery

Regardless of whether it was a prolonged journey to arrive at the decision to have a hysterectomy or it was a medical surprise, it's a complex process to move through. It can be a life changing and/or life saving procedure, but even so, it comes with emotional, physical, and relational impacts that can feel even bigger than the procedure itself. Often, standing in the middle of all of that emotional, physical and relational complexity can feel lonely, scary and intensely overwhelming. This is exactly why I’ve offered a virtual Hysterectomy Support Group.
This group was created to provide informed, compassionate, medical trauma-sensitive space for processing, support and connection. Regardless of when your surgery has already occurred, will occur, or even if you're just considering it, you are welcome here. This group is designed to honor the whole experience (including the decision making process), not just the medical outcome.
Why a Hysterectomy Support Group?
Hysterectomy is often discussed in clinical terms: recovery timelines, surgical success, symptom reduction. The emotional and psychological impact is frequently minimized or ignored. Individuals who undergo hysterectomy are often given a 6 week recovery timeline and sent on their way, when really the navigation of the experience is far longer, and far more complex.
People undergoing hysterectomy may experience:
-Grief related to fertility, body changes, or identity
-Relief confusingly mixed with sadness or anger
-Medical trauma, anxiety or distrust after years of being dismissed or mistreated in the healthcare system
-Loneliness, isolation and stress during preparation and post-op
-Confusion and fear regarding the physical ups and downs (and sideways experiences) of recovery
-Complex feelings that don’t fit tidy narratives
This group exists to combat isolation and process together, in a space that is endometriosis (and adenomyosis) informed and sensitive to medical trauma. This space is also welcoming of individuals receiving gender affirming care. You do not need to justify your feelings here. All responses, including ambivalence, are welcome.
In this space, we will:
-Share experiences in a supportive, contained environment
-Explore the emotional complexity of decision making regarding hysterectomy
-Gently process grief, anger, fear, relief, and meaning-making post procedure
-Foster connection and collective understanding
-Honor nervous system needs during recovery and trauma processing
And most of all, talk about what got weird. It's all welcome here.

Why Community Matters in Healing
While individual therapy can be incredibly helpful in processing the decision, the experience and the recovery, there is something uniquely healing about being witnessed by others who truly understand. Community can reduce shame, normalize complex emotions, and remind us that we are not alone in our experiences.
This group is an invitation to step out of isolation and into collective healing, with resonant, compassionate connection.
I welcome questions and am happy to connect and help you determine whether this group feels like a good fit. Please feel free to reach out and we'll chat.
